[ POST PICKS projection standard (4096 x ] 2160 or 2048 x 1080). Users can choose from a se- lection of picture compositions, including 1.85:1, 1.78:1, 1.66:1, 1.33:1, 2.35 spherical, 1.3x anamorphic and 2x anamorphic cropped. Promise Technology (www.promise.com) showed the SANLink adapter for Thunderbolt-en- abled devices at NAB.Thunderbolt technology sup- ports the PCI Express and DisplayPort protocols, and delivers high-performance data services and high-res- olution displays through a single, compact port. SAN- Link technology bridges two high-speed technologies — Fibre Channel and Thunderbolt interfaces — helping to bring the SAN to the masses. It provides dual-ported 4Gbps Fibre Channel access allowing for redundant paths to the SAN.The SANLink adapter will be available this summer, and will provide expan- sion opportunities to a new generation of devices with Thunderbolt I/O technology. The single cable solution will provide a dual 4G Fibre Channel link that can be used to connect to ex- ternal Fibre Channel storage or to an Xsan network. Each adapter features full duplex Fibre ports that au- tomatically detect connection speed and can operate independently at 1, 2 or 4Gb/s. GoPro’s (www.GoPro.com) 3D Hero System is a waterproof 3D expansion kit for the company’s 1080p HD Hero camera. Priced at $99, the system allows users to combine two 1080p HD Hero cam- eras ($259.99 each) to form a single 1080p 3D camera — one that’s waterproof to 180 feet. The polycarbonate housing holds the two cameras to- gether and a synchronization cable plugs into the back of each camera, enabling them to function as a single camera. A single shutter button controls both of the cameras. Teradek (www.teradek.com) offers the Cube family of camera-top streaming HD video devices. The Cube Encoder streams HD video over WiFi or wired Ethernet. The unit creates its own wireless (ad hoc) network and streams HD video directly to a Cube Decoder, a computer or laptop, a server, or a mobile device with no other networking equipment required. Cube Decoders are designed as a placement on small handheld monitors and large HD displays and feature either HDMI or HD-SDI output. The small, low-power video decoder pairs with the encoder to provide an end-to-end streaming video solution. Element Technica (www.technica3d.com) of- fers the Technica 3D family of stereographic 3D rigs, which are designed to precisely align and control positioning of a pair of cameras used in creating stereographic 3D imaging. Atom is a new, light- weight 3D platform designed for use with Red’s Epic cameras. Atom has been optimized to take advantage of the small form factor of the Epic while still accommodating full-sized PL and PV primes, as well as smaller zooms. The result is a lightweight, full 5K-3D beamsplitter system. Pric- ing for Atom is $64K for an aluminum version and $84K for the magnesium version. Other cameras often have to blow up images to get to the large format. The Meduza is quick to set up, has interchangeable lenses, and allows for remote control of lens distance and convergence. The unit consists of a single camera with a single set of electronics and a single set of controls that power two imaging sensors at the same time. In total, the camera weighs less than 15 lbs. The camera is not sensor dependent, and as sensor capability advances, new modules will become available. Dashwood provides troubleshooting tools ORONTO — Dashwood Cinema Solutions (www.Dashwood3D.com) showed a new line of Mac-based stereoscopic 3D products at the NAB Show in April. Stereo3D CAT is an on-location software calibration and analysis system that simplifies the calibration of left and right eye cameras. Equipped with an eyestrain warning system, Stereo3D CAT scans 3D footage and calculates the correct camera alignment points. Feedback guides illustrate the depth of the 3D shot and provide a visual aide for making convergence adjustments and proper interaxial separation. Dashwood’s new 3D Chart was de- veloped in conjunction with DSC Labs and acts as a stereoscopic chart that automates the display of accurate 3D rig calibration. When integrated with Stereo3D CAT calibration software or Stereo3D Toolbox V.3, the chart’s visual code trackers work alongside the applications to automatically track to 1/1,000 of a pixel for proper stereo alignment. The chart also offers an interface for live feedback with iPad support to assist in automating camera alignment, sync testing and slating, and color and gamma calibration. Stereo3D Toolbox V.3.0 is designed for stereoscopic 3D mastering, and allows users to output media to a Stereo3D CAT for on-location calibration and analysis. wide range of stereoscopic 3D formats, as well as manage the demuxing of side-by-side, interlaced and over/under formatting. New features in V.3.0 include improved rotational disparity correction, tilt correction, multi-camera input and management for MIO and multi-view, glasses-free auto-stereoscopic output format support, fish-eye lens correction, stereoscopic warning systems, and 2D-to-3D modules. Mekaniken upgrades to Pablo PA TOCKHOLM — Post house Mekaniken in Stockholm, Sweden, has upgraded its Quantel Pablo to 2K and stereo 3D operation, as well as boosted its workflow with the addition of the new Pablo PA software assist. The studio was founded in the mid- Mekaniken senior colorist Per Sjökvist at work on Pablo. 1990s and works on TV programs such as Pop Idol. The studio’s Pablo is currently being used to post 10, 45-minute episodes of The Bridge for Swedish broadcaster SVT. It’s also being used on two movies destined for festival release. Mekaniken CTO Henrik Cednert says digital acquisition has opened up the film market to the studio and expanded its cooperation with sister company Filmlance, which is one of Sweden’s largest independent production companies. “This makes it a perfect time to upgrade our hard-working Pablo to full 2K DI and market ourselves more aggressively into the film business,” says Cednert. Mekaniken served as a beta site for Pablo PA and quickly adopted the conform, prep and assist software, which serves to free up the hardware-based Pablo suite. www.postmagazine.com cont. from 25 cont. from 4 T S
