Stereo 3D News Alchemist Ph.C-HD for 3D standards conversion ANTS, UK — Snell’s (www.snellgroup.com) Alchemist Ph.C-HD has been used for frame rate conversion of 3D stereoscopic content, including international rugby, soccer and bal- let broadcasts. Since the differences in left and right video channels are what helps create the im- pression of depth, material that is undergoing standards conversion cannot introduce any dis- crepancies that might affect the end viewing experience. In scenarios where left and right channels are processed separately throughout the produc- tion and post chain, two Alchemist Ph.C-HDs can be used. Both converters are set with the same parameters and are externally referenced to a video source, which is compatible with the chosen output format. In a case where a broadcaster has decided to use a single channel 3D distribution path, where the left and right images are horizontally sub-sampled and placed side by side into a frame before the content is compressed and transmitted, a single Alchemist Ph.C-HD can be used. This workflow has the advantage of bandwidth efficiency, as only a single transmission chan- nel is required, rather than two.The Alchemist Ph.C-HD would be used to perform frame rate conversion toward the end of the processing workflow, just prior to transmission. Meduza previews upgradable 3DS camera OS ANGELES — Meduza Systems (www.meduzasystems.com) showed off its “be- yond 4K” digital stereo- scopic 3D camera at the NAB show recently.
