ISEA Communiqué • isea.org June 2014 7 SUMMER CONfERENCE the iSeA Summer leadership conference, July 28-29, at prairie Meadows conference center in Altoona, is a great opportunity for iSeA members to join together to gather more information about their profession, share ideas, and interact. this year's conference focuses on leadership opportunities within the profession, school district, and classroom. this past year brought a renewed focus within the Association on enhancing our strengths and nurturing leadership among our ranks. legislative opportunities presented with the teacher leadership systems offer opportunities for growth within the profession, and we want to make sure we are taking full advantage of these openings. in february 2014, the iSeA joined with other local, state, and national education leaders from across the country in a conference to plan how labor and management can effectively collaborate on systems change. the conference examined how school leaders, teachers, and other staff can work together to ensure college-and career-ready standards are successfully integrated into classrooms across the country. in a session at the iSeA Summer leadership conference, we will explore this union-district collaboration model. the session will seek to define what collaboration looks like, and what the Association can do to ensure positive student outcomes by promoting successful and effective partnerships at the local level. the conference will also focus on the new teacher leadership systems. it will offer strategies about how local Associations can work with school districts to successfully apply for a grant, including the districts which have already applied and those applying in the future. the new teacher leadership system is a positive step in rewarding professionals for the new roles and leadership positions they take. the iowa core will be thoroughly discussed during Summer leadership conference as iowa's schools move toward implementation. we are in a unique position to have time to integrate the common core Standards in a meaningful and valuable way for students before any statewide assessment or evaluatory changes are recommended or made. the iSeA wants to ensure members understand how the common core will be implemented in the classroom, and where to go for tools and resources. the Summer leadership conference will include plenty of information, break-outs, and quality discussion on the iowa core curriculum. the iSeA is aware of the demands on your professional time and the frustrations that many changes can bring. we offer a host of valuable resources and offerings that can help mitigate some of the nuisance, and perhaps most importantly, offer meetings and conferences where you can collaborate with peers. the Summer leadership conference registration is free to iSeA members. if you live outside of 70 miles from prairie Meadows, you may reserve a hotel room at a discounted rate by registering for the conference online at isea.org. lead with us! the 2014 iSeA Summer leadership conference is an opportunity you will not want to miss.
