Bethesda, MD-based animation and broadcast design studio PIXEL- DUST STUDIOS (www.pixeldust.tv) has expanded with new space in Manhattan.This follows the studio’s recent relocation and expan- sion of its Bethesda headquarters.The Pixeldust office in Manhattan is located at 584 Broadway in Soho, and is home to a half-dozen digital artists and producers.The New York office has contributed imagery to Discovery’s Wrath of God, Powering the Future and Monsters and Mysteries in Alaska. CINEMA INDIA EXPO 2011 (www.diversifiedcommunications.in) will take place at the Renaissance Convention Centre, Powai, Mumbai on June 24 and 25, 2011.The two-day event will spotlight the grow- ing ties between Bollywood and Hollywood, and will offer a technol- ogy exposition, seminars, educational tracks for cinematographers and directors, and red-carpet premieres of international features. Scrabble Entertainment, India’s first 2K DCI-compliant cinema de- ployment entity, is the presenting sponsor of Cinema India Expo. AUDIOENGINE in NYC has launched a boutique agency that spe- cializes in games, animation and apps. THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF TELEVISION ARTS & SCIENCES (NATAS) presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to Sir Howard Stringer, chairman/CEO of Sony Corporation. Stringer was honored at the 62nd Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards (www.emmyonline.tv) in Las Vegas. Since joining Sony, he has spear- headed the adoption of the Blu-ray format while leading the com- pany’s high-profile expansion into digital broadcasting, the Internet and computer technology, including 3D TV. GRASS VALLEY (www.grassvalley.com) has introduced a new exec- utive team, who are headquartered in San Francisco. Alain Andreoli has been named president/CEO. He was most recently an operating partner at Francisco Partners, the new owner of Grass Valley. Jeff Rosica stays on as executive VP and chief sales & marketing officer. Fox’s Million Dollar Money Drop is being produced at CULVER STU- DIOS using 17 Sony HDC-1500 HD studio cameras, with line cuts recorded to 18 Sony XDCAM PDW-F1600 decks.The show cap- tures hundreds of hours of footage for each episode. Editing is via Chainsaw, which uses six Avid Media Composers running Version 5 software.Avid Unity provides shared storage. Baird com- poses music for film and television productions. His credits include work on the two-part documentary Win- ston’s War. The Audient analog console/DAW controller was paired with Baird’s Logic system. His ASP2802 was supplied by dealer Studio Xchange, which recommended the Audient unit for its high-quality mic pres, dual-layer DAW integration and flexible I/O, which complements Baird’s outboard and synth.
