Nominations Sought for Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Awards Representative Mary Throne visits with students from Carey Jr. High in Cheyenne. Giving Legislators and Educational Experience (GLEE) was an event the WEA offered to locals to participate in during American Education Week. This gave locals an opportunity to invite elected officials in to their schools, worksites, etc., to experience a full day in a school. Do you have a colleague who is deserving of recognition for their teaching skills? Here's your chance to put him or her in the spotlight! Nominations are being accepted from peers, students, and community members until January 6, 2014, for the annual Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Awards. Nominees must be teachers of grades K-12, including Vocational, Special Education, and Title 1, in Wyoming or West Virginia. The nominee must be an active, full-time teacher with at least three years of experience. Teachers will compete for $3,500 awards. Once nominated, the teachers must fill out an application package, and a judging committee (comprised of past winners and others from the educational community) will review the applications and select the winners. Representative Lynn Hutchings from Cheyenne attended Christina Mayle's elementary class at Alta Vista School in Cheyenne as part of WEA's GLEE Week event. Students from Arapahoe raised their hands for NEA's Great Public Schools Campaign during American Education Week. Arapahoe Education Association President Cassie Gambler snapped this photo and sent it in to WEA for her students' recognition. Nomination forms are online at: http://www.archcoal.com/ community/teachernomination.aspx. WINTER 2013 ICI_ 6 Winter 2013 Final.indd 19 | wyoea.org 19 12/12/13 3:41 PM
