TEQUILA ESPOLÓN E spolón is proof of Skyy Spirits’ commitment to building up its tequila portfo- lio. With its new packaging, depicting Mexico’s iconic 19th-century Day of the Dead artwork, the 100% pure agave spirit from Jalisco’s Highlands refl ects the country’s history inside and out. Master Distiller Cirilo Oropeza makes this tequila in a clean, elegant style. Our Panel Votes: “Aged in 200-liter American oak barrels, Espolón Reposado has a full, round quality and is an easy drinker” (KB). “Espolón Blanco’s fresh and delicate nose is bright and fi lled with agave and fruit.” (LL) “Espolón Blanco has citrus-peel aromatics, sweet spring fl owers, white pepper and wet slate. The palate is bright and very clean with fresh acidity, a supple mouthfeel and a long, slightly spicy fi nish.” (KV) Skyy Spirits K.K. Lewis, Senior Brand Manager for Espolón Tequila. PELIGROSO L aunched this spring on—what else?— Cinco de Mayo, Peligroso is made in Jalisco’s Highlands. The brand is currently expecting to receive its organic certifi cation, and an extra añejo is planned for release next year. The brand owners were successful businessmen and simply searching for a great juice. They launched Peligroso out of their passion for good tequila. A snake necklace winds its way around the top of the bottle, showing its venom (the brand name means “dangerous” in Spanish). The owners say the name exemplifi es danger . . . and its rewards. Our Panel Votes: “Peligroso Silver is rich and redolent of candied, tropical grilled pineapple. Big fl avor; decadent palate.” (MM) “Peligroso Añejo—aged 16 months in new American oak—has that combination of fl oral aroma and nice wood balance. What a great sipping tequila!” (KB) “Peligroso Reposado is a wow: citrusy, bold and silky.” (LL) “Peligroso Silver has a bright, green exciting nose with a spicy and creamy mouthfeel.” (NR) Peligroso Spirits, LLC november 2010 / the tasting panel / 85
