Results of the 2013 San Francisco International Wine Competition Congratulations to all the winners of this year's San Francisco International Wine Competition. It was was a truly international event that wrapped up on June 16 at San Francisco's Hotel Nikko, where another record number of wines were evaluated, judged by some of the best palates in the country. Fifty-two judges from the arenas of retail, restaurants, winemaking, media and consulting from, New Zealand to Las Vegas judged 4,539 wines from 1,400 wineries, 30 countries and 29 states, with wines from Connecticut, Rhode Island and Nevada entering this year for the first time. Best of the Nation awards went to 22 countries, including several nations emerging into the U.S. market: Brazil, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Serbia and China, among many others, proving the true global nature of this event, and of today's wine market. The medal count for 2013 included 178 Double Gold awards, a distinction given when a wine unanimously is award a Gold Medal by all the judges evaluating it, 326 Gold medals, 1,427 Silver Medals and 1646 Bronze Medals.
