THE VOICE OF FIVE GENERATIONS Giving Back: A Family Legacy W ine and art are both essential elements of culture, and the Wente family has a tremendous legacy with both. Family-owned and operated, Wente Vineyards has been producing sustainable, estate grown wines since 1883. Since 1986, The Concerts at Wente Vineyards has brought world-class musicians to the Livermore Valley. Fifth Generation Winemaker Karl Wente has merged his passion for wine and music with The Front Porch music series, a collective showcase of local Bay Area and nationally acclaimed musical talent hosted at Wente Vineyards' Estate Winery. The fourth and fifth generations of the Wente family have been actively involved with various charities that focus on the areas of arts and education, including stints as Board and Committee members and the contribution of wine and wine country experiences. Formally established in 2012, Wente Foundation for Arts Education (WFAE) was built on the Wente family's legacy of charitable giving, particularly in the realm of arts and education. The purpose of the organization is to meet the financial needs of arts programs as well as create opportunities for talented children and students across the country. "Arts" includes all forms of artistic expression, including music, visual arts, performing arts and others. However, during its first three years of operation, the Foundation will focus specifically on music education. In support of the Foundation and its mission, Fifth Generation Winemaker Karl Wente has created a small lot, limited-edition wine named The Art of Giving. All sales proceeds are donated to the Foundation.
