As a native Adobe Premiere panel, ShotNotes lets editors organize their proj- ects by adding rich notes directly to their sequenc- es. Editors can add timecode to the notes, link to other sequences, and even keep track of how long editing tasks take to do. Unlike standard markers, which can get cluttered or lost in complex sequences, ShotNotes provides an easy way to keep track of thoughts and "to-do" items. It's not just text. It can be clickable timecode, links to other sequences, web links and more. It can even create markers to fit into a marker workflow. The notes are exportable and can be shared with other users, printed and backed up. ShotNotes is available immediately and is priced at $129. Lightcraft Technology Lightcraft Technology (https://lightcraft.pro) pre- viewed Spark Story at the NAB Show in Las Vegas in April. The rapid virtual-shot system is designed to help filmmakers start workshopping their story with their team. Spark Story lets users start visualizing their story in 3D right away by building scenes around realistic digital environments with physically-correct motion and actual camera & lens models. This allows directors, DPs and VFX teams to evaluate whether these early decisions will still hold up on shoot days. Spark Story's deep integration between its browser and mobile app allows global teams to work together live, using scripts, Gaussians Splats, imported USD assets and camera motion to create fast, interactive previs. "The days of waiting until post to figure out if the story is working are over," explains Eliot Mack, CEO and founder of Lightcraft Technology. "With Spark Story, a team can go from 0 to 80 percent and be ready for pitching and planning almost immediately. Then they can pull people in, build momentum and radically accelerate the shooting process." Spark Story is the first piece of a comprehensive Spark platform that is still in development. At NAB, the company highlighted a number of key features, including realtime 3D shot construction, dynamic screenplay editing, instant virtual production and integrated shot lists. OpenDrives OpenDrives (www.opendrives.com), which spe- cializes in software-defined video and rich me- dia storage management solutions, introduced OpenDrives Edge at the NAB Show in Las Vegas back in April. OpenDrives Edge is a hybrid cloud- edge performance accelerator product that gives distributed teams reliable, local-speed data access to their data from wherever they work — all with- out the latency, high costs and complexity that come with managing traditional hybrid workflows or cloud-only workflows. OpenDrives Edge provides a bridge between the data that is normally beyond the reach of widely-distributed teams and the creative users who need access. However, OpenDrives Edge is not just hybrid edge storage and compute; it's a hybrid cloud-edge performance accelerator that provides fast data movement and orchestration, delivering local-speed 4K/8K workflows for dis- tributed teams while reducing overall costs. Typically, accessing large datasets directly from the public cloud introduces latency and unpre- dictable cloud egress costs. Complications arise when moving and managing datasets between the cloud and another on-premises data source. Widely distributed creative teams often end up losing time managing file transfers, resolving sync conflicts and keeping versions aligned. OpenDrives Edge removes this friction by introducing intelli- gent edge syncing and automated data movement between the central data hub and globally-distrib- uted teams. Moving data with OpenDrives Edge is simple and automatic. Pull data once, cache it locally and work at local LAN speed. Changes are auto- matically synced back to the hub. Creative teams continue using the same tools and workflows they rely on, while IT gains greater governance and cost control over how data is accessed, stored and used. OpenDrives Edge is well suited for organiza- tions working with large, shared datasets across distributed environments, including media & entertainment, corporate creative teams and general enterprise data-intensive industries. Common use cases include multi-site, remote collaboration, hybrid cloud workflows and post production pipelines. The first phase of OpenDrives Edge is now available, with additional caching and multi-site control capabilities planned as part of the com- pany's broader data services roadmap. Existing OpenDrives customers can access Edge through the company's Atlas data storage and manage- ment platform's Containers Marketplace, providing connections to all major public clouds: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud (GCP) and Microsoft Azure, with support for Oracle Cloud and others coming soon. Future releases will extend Edge beyond Atlas to offer expanded certified hardware options and run directly on customer servers and addi- tional cloud compute infrastructure, further simplifying workflow management across cus- tomer environments. Quantum Quantum Corporation (www.quantum.com) used the NAB Show to highlight solutions designed to address AI-driven supply chain and power challenges that are arising from surging costs, constrained availability and supply uncertainty for flash and hard-disk technologies. Just prior to the show, Quantum introduced "shockproof workflows," architectures intended to mitigate those vulnerabilities with available solutions that enable relief from energy constraints, lower stor- age costs and support hardware-level, cyber-re- silience that traditional flash and hard drive-only solutions can't deliver. These workflows are anchored by the company's Quantum ActiveScale object storage platform with integrated cold stor- age and the Quantum Scalar i7 tape library, built to hyperscaler specifications. Hugues Meyrath, chief executive officer of Quantum, notes that most organizations that depend on flash or hard drive-only solutions are facing the need to review their architectures and ask hard questions, such as, "Where is my supply chain exposure? How do I contain spiking flash costs? How do I inoculate my workflows against the next disruption?" With global semiconductor fabrication capacity oversubscribed through 2028 and new data center power demands at unprecedented levels, the need for AI infrastructure is challenging component availability at affordable prices. Tape has re- emerged as a critical and strategic technology to store even the largest content and preservation archives at reduced cost. LTO-10 cartridges now deliver up to 40TBs of native capacity, and tape drives such as those found in Quantum's Scalar tape libraries offer speeds exceeding 400MBs per second with AES-256 hardware encryption. Tape systems consume dramatically less power and provide a hardware air gap that network-connect- ed storage mediums can't match, as a cartridge in a vault is unreachable by ransomware, firmware exploits or supply-chain attacks.
