P R O J E C T H A I L M A R Y | P E R S P E C T I V E 7 1 I felt extremely fortunate to work alongside Phil Lord and Chris Miller on Project Hail Mary. It has truly been a once-in- a-lifetime opportunity, being part of this filmmaking team and being able to bring Andy Weir's remarkable novel and Drew Goddard's brilliant script to the big screen. When I came aboard this project, the journey ahead felt simultaneously exhilarating and daunting. Phil and Chris's vision of the film was an exploration of what it means to be deeply human. They wanted to bring great optimism, inspiration and celebration in portraying unknown worlds beyond our own. As filmmakers, we all agreed this was certainly one of the most complex and challenging endeavors any of us had experienced. The sets needed to be both tactile and highly authentic, allowing the audience to believe in Grace's high- stakes predicaments. At the very beginning of preproduction, we had extensive access to NASA, including site visits to JPL, USAF Vandenberg Space Force Base and the US Navy. Many legendary astronauts shared their extraordinary and invaluable experiences of real space flight. SHIP EXTERIOR CONCEPT ART 3D CREW MODULE DESIGN
