of the water, these boats had to be designed to float independently. And our river had to be deep enough to accommodate the action required by the story. The boats needed to be able to fit within a small space and carry four children. The boats were cast out of fiberglass, with added weight to the bow, and included custom-fit parts to tie it into the design. The SFX team provided a pulley system for its travel. In both Freddy's movies, we see the pizzeria in its clean and pristine heyday, then in a decayed abandoned condition. In the first film, I chose to start with the decayed look because that was the key look for the film and required very detailed and intense art direction. The clean new version only appeared in video footage that Mike, played by Josh Hutcherson, watched. I felt I wanted to get the decayed version right and we could bring back selected parts to a clean version with little turn over time. However, for the second film, we feature the clean version much more and it opens the film. To visually translate the transformation of these two spaces, and how they maintain its core design, I brought in the talented Wade Acuff for concept art. I really wanted to showcase the pizzeria in all its glory before moving on to its abandoned distressed look. Working closely with first AD Woodrow Travers, we were able to create a schedule that allowed us the time needed for the turnover. One of the things that elevated the design of Five Nights at Freddy's 2 was the tireless work of set decorator Claire Sanchez. Her creative contribution and eye for detail brought what I consider to be the most important layer to this and any set.
