We wanted Trevor's cell to land in the center of an encircling walkway, and sit slightly raised as though on a stage, so that when Simon approaches, it feels like he's come upon Trevor in the middle of a one-man show. We designed the bars and door to function like vertical louvers on sliders, suggesting an electrical and technological component to how they function, and keeping the profile of the bars as slim as possible to allow the men to appraise each other eye-to-eye. In the end, Simon and Trevor fly off together into an unknown future, blasting through the ceiling in the final stunt and practical SFX moment of the season. How do you blow up a soundstage? For us, the answer began with an octopus and ended with high-powered rigs pulling massive ribs of carved foam and debris across dozens of yards in seconds, in the dark, over and over. In one of the series' most meta turns, Simon Williams lands the lead in an in-universe feature production of Wonder Man, only to lose control and destroy the set around him at the end of Episode 7. We saw a chance to revisit our retro spaceship, Tako, reimagining it at large scale for a modern-day blockbuster. The set was built to be as easy as possible to tear apart at speed, then reset. Set dec had to turn us over from an intact soundstage to one in pieces, with radiating debris tracing the blast of Simon's ionic energy. When the moment finally came, it was a release of all the energy the show had accumulated over many months of challenges. It was a real moment of movie magic and of well-deserved catharsis. That's a Wrap For us, Wonder Man became a story about possibility and perseverance, built by people who understand that journey firsthand. Los Angeles has a history with the film and television industry that doesn't compare with anywhere else. It isn't just a dream factory, it's a community—and there's nothing else quite like the film and TV community, no matter what part of town you call home. Wherever Wonder Man blasts off to in the future, we are happy to have been able to help tell his origin story here, in Los Angeles.
