36 SAG-AFTRA | Fall/Winter 2022 | sagaftra.org Union's Trust & Estates Team Tracks Down Members Who Haven't Provided Valid Addresses for Their Residuals ne of the core missions of SAG-AFTRA is to ensure members get their residuals money in a timely manner. But what happens when the union has an invalid address? Keep reading to see how the union connects members with their money. IF THERE IS NO RESPONSE FROM THE PERFORMER SAG-AFTRA's records are updated to indicate that the address is bad. After the four weeks, the funds are deposited in a trust account that holds the money for members. All subsequent residuals are routed to the trust account, and SAG-AFTRA's research team is notified to start additional outreach to notify the member. Research includes: LexisNexis, IMDbPro, affiliated unions and social media platforms. Each month and every time a deposit is made into the trust, a message is automatically generated and sent to the member's email on file, notifying them that funds are being held for them. In addition, the performer gets a notification when they log into the sagaftra.org website and the SAG-AFTRA app. IF THE PERFORMER RESPONDS SAG-AFTRA staff updates the address in the union's system and all future residuals are mailed to the new address. In addition, the union encourages the performer to consider switching to direct deposit so that a change of address never causes a problem again. RETURNED TO SENDER When residual checks are returned to SAG-AFTRA due to an invalid address, the union tries to contact the member through email, phone or by letter to an alternate address, and holds the check for about four weeks while it awaits a response. Let the union know your new address by logging on to sagaftra.org, via the app or by calling the contact center at (855) 724-2387.
