"It's a rare opportunity to work with your kid, and it's even more rare to enjoy it as much as I do," Ralph says. "We've been working together since he was six." What's also rare: The Tuthilltown Distillery employs Gable's wife and her sister and parents. So, the distillery is quite the family operation—a slight glimpse into how these companies operated before whiskey became bigtime business. But the Erenzos transcend whiskey in so many ways. Soon, the Tuthilltown Distillery will be 100 percent powered by its own waste and solar. "We are serious about becoming a carbonneutral whiskey," Ralph says. On the philanthropy front, as craft distilling has become more in vogue, Ralph and Gable have helped numerous new operators. "I always tell craft guys that the tourism side of the business is as important as the whiskey itself," Ralph says. Meanwhile, in New Orleans, it remains a true challenge to get them away from other people for a photo opportunity. At every corner is some- body who is eager to shake an Erenzo hand. On Bourbon Street, a random William Grant employee can't wait to share the news about a breakthrough in the German market. Apparently, shoving their whiskey down your throat with brand messaging. They are a genuine father-and-son team who are as real and likeable as it gets.
