induSTRy SpOTlIghT Anchor'd in Education S an Francisco–based importer and distiller Anchor Distilling Company has appointed Alan Kropf as the company's Director of Education. Kropf will oversee the educational strategy of the more than 300 craft spirits that make up the Anchor Distilling Alan Kropf. portfolio, embracing new media and innovative methods to share the stories behind the brands.  "Here at Anchor we have great products with inspired stories and I wanted to work with someone who could really bring all of this to life in a meaningful and relevant way," says David King, President of Anchor Distilling. He adds, "Alan has established himself as a leading voice in the Millennial beverage movement, speaking extensively on beverage-related issues around the world. Education is the lifeblood of our industry and bringing Alan on board means that our team will be able to speak to the craft spirits community with more confidence and credibility." Prior to joining the team at Anchor Distilling, Kropf enjoyed a successful career as a sommelier, working at prestigious properties including the Beverly Hills Hotel and Gordon Ramsay's signature restaurant at The London Hotel in West Hollywood. He founded Mutineer magazine in 2007, overseeing operations and serving as Editor-in-Chief until 2012, when he became President to concentrate on Mutineer's expansion and addition of a marketing division. Willamette Valley Wineries on the Road to SoCal T he City of Angels adds to the list of hallmark cities to host world-class Oregon wineries. Pinot in the City, the Willamette Valley Wineries Association's (WVWA) road show event series, showcases the faces and flavors behind Oregon's flagship Pinot Noir. The Ebell Club will host a trade event on Wednesday, September 11 from noon to 4 p.m. The wineries, hailing from Oregon's most famous winegrowing appellation, will feature owners and vintners to shed light on the story of Willamette Valley wines. Paris Las Vegas Welcomes Steve Martorano C ook, DJ and cookbook author Steve Martorano is partnering with Paris Las Vegas to bring his restaurant to the Las Vegas Strip. He will bring his brand of Italian American fare to a second Las Vegas location in early 2014. In addition to his popular restaurant at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, Martorano's will join the dining roster at Paris Las Vegas, fast becoming Las Vegas's next culinary destination.  Martorano, known as the "Godfather of Italian American Cooking," started his career as a DJ and created the first restaurants with signature DJ booths in the kitchen.
