PEOPLE www.postmagazine.com 34 POST SEPT/OCT 2022 LALA GAVGAVIAN Visual effects studio Digital Domain in Los Angeles has named Lala Gavgavian global president of visual effects studios, expanding her current role as chief operating officer. Gavgavian will oversee the com- pany's global VFX services, which have seen their revenue double, while netting over 30 major award nominations/wins in the last five years. She succeeds John Fragomeni. An industry vet with over 25 years of experience in VFX, Gavgavian started with the studio as director of human resources, talent acquisition and devel- opment in 2007. She later stepped into the role of EVP/general manager, and ultimately, COO. She will be responsible for continued growth and expanding the company's offerings, including the ongoing development of proprietary digital human capabilities that can only be found at Digital Domain. MICHAEL CIESLINSKI The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) will award Michael Cieslinski, technical lead imaging frontend at Arri, with the 2022 Camera Origination and Imaging Medal Award. The prize recognizes significant technical achievements related to invention or advances in imaging technol- ogy, and will be presented on October 27th at the SMPTE Annual Awards Gala ceremony in Hollywood Cieslinski started his professional career in 1985 at a small company, where he created one of the first digital CCD cameras. After joining Arri in 2000, he was tasked with the concept development for the Arriscan while working on Arri's first image sensor, the ALEV2, which was used in the D20/D21 cameras. He went on to lead the Arriscan project until 2005 before starting work on the architecture of the ALEV3 sensor, which first came to the market in the Alexa in 2010. Currently, he works as a technical lead at Arri on various topics. HOLLY GREIG Stone Dogs, the boutique London VFX and finishing house, has hired Holly Greig. She joins the studio's budding color team, which launched as a new offer- ing this summer. Greig began her journey in post production as a receptionist at Prime Focus, working her way up through MCR to TK assistant. From there she moved to Freefolk as a data wrangler, dedicating herself to absorbing as much knowl- edge as possible from the inspiring colorists around her. She eventually earned the same position, and has gone on to develop a commercial client base while crafting eye-catching work for Nike, E4 and Virgin Atlantic. She looks forward to being a part of the Stone Dogs community following a stretch of freelancing during COVID. AYUMI ASHLEY Boutique color correction studio Rare Medium in New York City has hired Ayumi Ashley as senior col- orist. She brings over a decade of experience in the industry and a portfolio that includes work for major brands such as Google, Dropbox and Facebook. After co-founded finishing facility Mission Film and Design in 2015, Ashley moved on to Ntropic, where she worked with big brands, agencies, directors, DPs and leading musical artists. She joins Rare Medium having collaborated on projects for Spotfiy; Cole Haan, starring Hasan Minhaj; YouTube Music, starring Billie Eilish; and Rosalía. Ashley is a member of both IATSE Local 700 Editors Guild and Colorist Society International. NICHOLAS BRITELL Creative music company MAS (Music and Strategy) in New York City has announced a partnership with Emmy Award-winner and three-time Academy Award-nominated composer Nicholas Britell, who is looking to expand his reach into the world of ad- vertising. Britell has composed critically-acclaimed scores over the past few years, including those for Best Picture winner Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk and Vice. He most recently scored Netflix's Don't Look Up, which earned him Academy Award, BAFTA and Critics' Choice nominations. In addition, he wrote and produced two original songs for the film, including "Just Look Up," performed by Ariana Grande and Kid Cudi, and "Second Nature," performed by Bon Iver. CLAUDIO SEPULVEDA Colorist Claudio Sepulveda has joined the Vancouver roster of artists at Streamland Media's picture divi- sion, Picture Shop. He comes onboard as a senior colorist and bringing 30 years of finishing experience on both features and episodics. Sepulveda's most recently served at Company 3, though his 20-year career as a senior colorist also included engagements at Technicolor and Deluxe. His feature work includes credits such as Beyond the Black Rainbow, Every Breath You Take and Child's Play, while his television credits include the series Virgin River, Firefly Lane, Van Helsing and The Order. He has also worked on a number of TV movies, includ- ing Disney's Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 2 & 3, Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance and The Girl in the Bathtub. CATHERINE MULLAN Catherine Mullan, head of animation at London's One of Us, has officially become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, joining 396 other artists and executives who have distinguished them- selves by their contributions to theatrical motion pic- tures. Mullan joined One of Us in 2020 after 12 years at MPC, supervising Dumbo and Maleficent, among many other shows. Her experience and expertise has been invaluable to the company, especially during the difficult times of the pandemic. RYAN TUDHOPE, FRANÇOIS DUMOULIN Ryan Tudhope (top photo), who worked as a pro- duction-side VFX supervisor on Top Gun: Maverick, has joined London's Framestore as its newest creative director and VFX supervisor for films and episodics. A member of the Television Academy and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Tudhope's 25-year career as a creative director, visu- al effects supervisor and entrepreneur has seen him work on more than 50 premiere feature films and episodic projects. He was the co-founder and CEO of VFX studio Atomic Fiction. In addition, VFX supervisor François Dumoulin (bottom photo) joins Framestore's Montreal team. He comes to the studio from Rodeo FX, with recent high-profile credits that include Dune, The Sandman and Loki. His experience encompasses on-set and in-house supervision, and his work has been recognized with Emmy and VES Award nominations (both for Misha Green's Lovecraft Country), as well as a place on the 2018 Oscar shortlist for his work on Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
