Located on the univer- sity's 210+ acre campus in Florida, the virtual production studio's use of Unreal Engine, live event production, and various aspects of filmmaking artfully demonstrates the intersections between inno- vative storytelling, visual artistry, and next-gen technology that are so deeply engrained within the education at Full Sail. Unlike traditional film sets, virtual production utilizes various soware packages allowing users to marry both computer graphics and live-action footage in real-time. This advancement gives con- tent creators and contributors from various locations the ability to create and render digital environments, while onsite cast mem- bers are physically located in the studio working on set. Through a combination of tracking and real-time rendering abilities, this latest addition to the university's campus will allow for immersive virtual environments (ranging from iconic landmarks to interplanetary landscapes, and more) to be created serving as scenic backdrops for film, TV, and additional production projects. "Full Sail University is honored to cut the ribbon on our latest in- novative facility, Studio V1," stated Rick Ramsey, Education Director of Visual Arts at Full Sail University. "Our Virtual Production Studio will allow our students to gain real-world industry knowledge utiliz- ing the latest technology, while also attracting professional projects to the region. We look forward to the future projects and learning opportunities this studio will provide." Studio V1 will allow students to collaborate across multiple de- gree programs, providing real-world experience with current trends and technology found in the entertainment industry, in addition to hosting professional projects and productions. The studio will offer unique learning opportunities for students across numerous Bachelor's and Master's degree programs, includ- ing Computer Animation, Digital Cinematography, Film Production, Game Art, Game Design, Game Development, Show Production, and Simulation & Visualization. ¢ tracking system and a Red Komodo 6K camera fitted with Zeiss lenses. The new stage is just the beginning of an 11-acre expansion at SCAD's Savannah Film Studios, which will make it the largest, most comprehensive university film studio complex in the country. The university is also building a three-phase Hollywood-style film backlot, with the first phase opening in Fall 2023. SCAD is also expanding the Digital Media Center on its Atlanta cam- pus, which will include a second XR stage set to open for Fall 2022. SCAD's XR stage facilities are fundamentally changing the way SCAD students design, produce, and share con- tent. With the power of real-time XR technology, there's no limit to the worlds students can create. ¢
