The Broker's Bowler Cup Competition MIXOLOGISTS FROM ACROSS THE NATION COMPETE IN LOS ANGELES FOR A TRIP TO TALES OF THE COCKTAIL W ith a chance to win a trip to Tales of the Cocktail and be named the "Broker's Bowler Cup Champion" on the line, entries from across the country flooded the Broker's Gin Facebook page as a call went out—East, West, Central and South—for mixologists' best recipes. Soon, consumer voting began and the top 12 finalists, three from each region of the country, were chosen. Days later, judges gathered at Wood & Vine in Hollywood, CA to taste all 12 drinks and pick a winner from each region to head to New Orleans. As the tasting progressed, the judges were astonished by the originality of the contestants."Broker's is so versatile and this competition shows how creative and excited people get when given the opportunity," says Keri Eliason, Marketing Brand Manager of Hood River Distillers. "Looking back as a creative bartender, I felt stuck and like I was speaking a language no one else was," remembers Tricia Carr, Director of Mixology for Southern Wine & Spirits of Southern California. "Luckily, I was able to meet my mentors in Marcos Tello, Zahra Bates and Damian Windsor, but this sort of competition let's all of the creative mixologists out there know that there is a community for them!" Ray Ewers, Key Account Specialist for The Artisanal Group, agrees with Carr: "Tales of the Cocktail brings every region of the country together, and events like this help craft bartenders extend their reach and put them on a national level." Check out the contestants and their recipes!
