Tennessee. Literally, the Chattanooga Choo- Choo, that has track, trains AND a Civil War era tunnel. For a minute I thought we'd struck gold. Ultimately, that idea proved untenable, since we ad t rtra r dierent ndergrnd statins it r dierent trains and te ld nt support that. Ultimately, I settled on my ace in the hole, the Savannah Train Museum, a place I've sted n ter films and ne e een ringing my kids to for years. The trains, tunnels and stations of the Underground Railroad were the Art Department's first . ere as eng tra t reate at one hundred yards of tunnel. This seems both huge and tiny depending on if you are a person or a train. This amount of tunnel was what we could ard t als at ld fit at te msem given its functional reality. I designed a tunnel that had openings for stations on either side. The idea was to swap out stations and amend the tunnel per episode, but only have one main tunnel. ere ere signifiant angeers t manage replete with wilding walls, explosions, cave-ins, not to mention the moving trains themselves. Set operations were complicated by the fact that all the train work would have to be scheduled at one time. There could only be very limited turnaround time to swap out sets. The solution was to nestle the station sets inside each other. This made the changeovers mostly about a striking of the inner set reealing te set tat it ad een fitted int. All of this was complicated by sheer scale of the set pieces. C. DETAIL OF TENNESSEE STATION.
