Of course, the right period was always seriously considered, but there was a freedom, or rather the sense to push further ahead reimagining what Beth's world would be. Once Beth starts traveling, the framework of her world gets repetitive: it´s just another plane, hotel, tournament and so on… But there was never any question about the need for an American base to build on, to give the story a home where it belongs. Beside all the tricks and wonders that could be achieved in Berlin, we were certain to shoot some real North American exteriors. The production ended up in and around Toronto, where we shot all the downtown Lexington locations, the Wheatley house exterior and neighborhood, some campus and high school exteriors, and the deadly car accident.
