How could there be any reality within our personal, artistic, subjective approach? That's probably another discussion… However, one of the biggest struggles the production faced was at the beginning—the orphanage building. We had a fairly great location in sight when we started our research and everybody fell in love with it. This particular location became one of the reasons to bring the show to Berlin. Then disaster unfolded. The owner of this grand manor house turned out to be insanely greedy and asked for an absurd amount of money. I'm not talking about something just a bit annoying to deal with, but really outside any comprehensible price range anyone could accept. It was pure madness. Imagine a really high and over- tet rie and mltil it fie. tall ra. Because the production had grown dependent on this frickin' location, we tried everything to ee it. e nterered a still enormous location fee, inlding an er t renate the abandoned place and leave it in a better state than before. But nothing worked! But how can one deal with madness? The bitter news was you cannot! Finally, we decided not to bow to the absurd proposal. We all agreed not to create a terrible example and burn our own backyard. Even though we didn't have an alternative at hand, or even in sight, we walked away. Once again, our hero location scout, Stefan Wöhleke stepped in, turned every (im)possible stone, and finall nd anter latin.n te end rse it turned out to be a much better place to tell the str. smaller mae a it t small at first sight, but we made it work.
