M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S I 5 Dear MPSE Members: This is an amazing time for the Motion Picture Sound Editors. To begin, we are marking the one-year anniversary of our magazine, MPSE Wavelength! I extend my sincere thanks to the contributors and MPSE Board members who make it happen, especially our editor, Christina Horgan. I am also looking forward to our annual Golden Reel Awards Show. Just 68 short years ago, MPSE held its first awards ceremony in the Walt Disney commissary. It seems like yesterday! This year's show will be unique as it will be virtual. Wait until you see how we pull this off ! The show will employ a sophisticated, interactive platform that will provide an experience as close to " being there" as possible. This is not your parents' Zoom meeting! It will include our famous, pre-show cocktail hour where you will be able to see and interact with your friends in real-time. The first thing you'll tell them is that the platform is incredible! While I'm sure you'll love the virtual experience, the show's true purpose is to honor the nominated projects and the artists who crafted them. A big advantage of hosting the show virtually is that it will be international. Everyone can attend … without enduring airline food or Uber rides. The show will also feature presenters from around the world. Additionally, we will be honoring our first international Filmmaker Award recipient, director George Miller. He will join us from Australia. This year's Career Achievement honoree is the talented music editor Dennis Drummond. We are thrilled to honor both men. It's going to be a great show! I can't wait to see you there.
