from the editor W elcome to our redesigned Whole Life Times! We're excited to share our new look with you, and you'll soon find that although our appearance has changed somewhat, our pages contain the same top-quality content you've come to expect from us over the past 36 years. So why the change? Visually, we wanted something a little sharper, more representative of the urban sophistication of our readers. Then as we were exploring new options, we discovered we'd be able to save 4,000 pounds of paper, 90 pounds of soy ink, and a conservatively estimated 110,000 gallons of fuel a year if we trimmed the width by a mere three-fourths of an inch, so that seemed like a no-brainer. Although we were already printing on FSC-certified paper (and are the only magazine in L.A. that does), we realized we could make more of a difference to the environment. The new size is also lighter. Just 15 years ago, taking a computer to work meant lugging a massive, herniating weight to and from the car twice a day. Now we can throw a mobile device into a handbag or backpack, and jog to the beach. We've gotten used to things being compact and portable. One could argue, why take a print edition at all when you can read on your iPhone? We like to give you choices: You can download the Whole Life Times app for Apple devices from the app store. You can sign up on our homepage, www.wholelifemagazine.com, and read a digital edition we send to your inbox. Or if, like me, you enjoy paging through a magazine (I often start at the back), turning down corners and tearing off bits to file away or mail to a sibling, you can continue to pick us up free at nearly 500 stops around greater L.A. So dear readers, the choice is yours. The one thing I encourage you to do is remember that we are community supported and advertising revenue is our lifeblood. So if you have a product or service, consider advertising with us. 6 Holding an event? Calendar listings start at just $50. And if you see something you like, please tell our advertisers where you saw their ad. We feel so very fortunate to have wonderful, skilled, inspired people entrusting a portion of their marketing to us, making it a pleasure to do business with them. By giving them your business, you help complete a beautiful circle. Another great pleasure is receiving an email from you saying you have been reading WLT for years. We're so appreciative of our community connection with every one of you, and honored that you continue to find our magazine useful in your life. This is our Travel issue and we're taking you to some amazing places. Sustainable Iceland (pg. 28). Healing India (pg. 24). A destination restaurant in the West Valley (pg. 20). We'll also tell you about welcome gifts for countries you visit (pg. 9), vacation sex (pg. 16) and how to keep that vacation glow when you return (pg. 18). So pack your bag, metaphorical or otherwise, and let's get going! And please send us a postcard (text, email) letting us know how you like our new look.
