Winter 2021 The Costume Designer 13 Dear Members and Friends, Happy 2021! Now that 2020 is in the rearview mirror, it is possible to see that while it was an extremely difficult year in so many ways, there are some things we can look on as achieve- ments. We played an integral part in providing over 44,000 masks to the community and to the first responders at UCLA. We participated in several food drives, as well as our annual Toys for Tots drive. Members stepped up with offers to help other members in need. Our benefit plans were revised to keep members insured during this vital time. A new parents committee was formed to help parents who work in the industry. Our diversity committee responded to the horrors of the violence against the Black community, and hosted several Zoom webinars about how to learn to respect and cherish one another as members of the human race. The office said goodbye to our beloved Ceci, who moved on to a wonderful position at Netflix, and hello to our new administrative assistant, Aja Davis. She is a valuable addition to our team, and I look forward to when you will all be able to meet her in person and get to know her as the wonderful person she is. We did not let this pandemic beat us down. We worked very hard with the Producers Guild, and other guilds, in a joint effort to put protocols in place to help get our members back to work. While many of you were able to go back to jobs, there is still cause for caution and diligence. We must all be committed to mask wearing, hand washing, social distancing, and following stay-at-home or quarantine orders to their fullest. We cannot let our guard down! We all look forward to the time we can meet in person again and enjoy the camaraderie of being together. I hope that 2021 will bring you new creative opportunities, prosperity, and joy.
