The midnight sun in Iceland. Celebrating Sunshine REYKA VODKA CAPTURES ICELAND IN A BOTTLE E merging from a long, dark winter, Iceland celebrates Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year—literally 24 hours of sunshine on the Arctic island—in a big way. The Icelandic people leave work and spend some sunny time with their families and friends at a parade, Viking festival, midnight marathon or nature walk. They may even enjoy a Reyka or two. Reyka Vodka is thoroughly Icelandic. Firstly, the name is taken from the Icelandic word for "steam" (abundant in Iceland from underground sources and used to power the country). Only the purest Arctic spring water from a nearby spring is used in the Reyka distillation process. Lastly, lava rocks, a populous natural resource for the volcanic island, are used in the filtration process. Produced in Borgarnes, on the island's southwestern coast, the liquid is created by hand and in small batches. That's about as Icelandic as you can get. This year, Reyka is spreading the traditional Icelandic Summer Solstice celebrations around the world with special events and exciting contests. From June 1 through July 30, checkout reykasolstice.com for cocktail recipes, fun facts and even a photo upload contest to win a trip to Iceland! —Breanne DeMore One family, one soul, one sense for great wine. zeni.it TP0613_042-79.indd 67 5/23/13 4:33 PM
