Misha Green and I agreed that the fi nal leg of Hippolyta's journey to planet Nelus should be reminiscent of Diana's comic book drawings. I looked at 1950s science fi ction book covers and fi lms, and was inspired by their charming vision of the future. I was also thinking about my favorite childhood book, The Little Prince, when designing the rocketship, along with the Nelus aliens' rotund bodies. You can fi nd more circles in the branches of the planet's trees, as represented by the round craters embedded in them. As I was trying to reimagine the 1950s science fi ction visuals, I was also keeping a modern sensibility to the shapes and colors, as I wanted the sets to feel simultaneously nostalgic and fresh. The scenic charge Maureen Kropf and her team were great collaborators in the search for the appropriate color hue for each sequence in Hippolyta's journey through time. The entire project was a magical gift, and I feel very privileged to have interpreted Hippolyta's joyous ride into self-discovery. I couldn't have done it without the hard work and support of the talented Art Department: Supervising Art Director Audra Avery, Art Directors Mari Lappalainen, Omar Foster, Elena Albanese and Nathan Krochmal, Set Designers Justin Trudeau, Justin Lang, Mayumi Valentine and Chad Frey, Graphic Artists Jenn Moye and Kevin Kalaba, concept artists Hugh Sicotte, Christopher Brndstrm and Deak Ferrand, prop master J.P. Jones, and last but not least, set decorator Summer Eubanks and her team. This was an Art Department unafraid of dreaming big and bold. ADG A. ROCKET LANDING ON PLANET NELUS.
