M OT I O N P I CTU R E S O U N D E D I TO R S I 47 The annual event that has been held on the Sony Pictures Studio lot in Culver City, CA, since originally launched six years ago has become a regular summit for all things sound for picture and a sort of homecoming for the professionals in the industry. The opportunity to network, see friends, discuss trends, and interact with the latest technology in the fi eld has resulted in steady increases in attendance. Undeterred by the pandemic and local shutdowns that continue to keep Culver City and the Sony lot subject to strict public gathering guidelines, event organizers Future and Mix quickly decided to carry on the tradition through a virtual event determined to o‰ er the same opportunities in the best manner available. Through the virtual platform, vFairs.com, attendees were able to roam the event moving from a virtual exhibit hall to two theaters where both pre-recorded and live presentations took place. With two days stacked with sessions from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day, attendees were treated to two keynote speakers, over 20 panel discussions from event partners, MPSE and CAS, as well as sponsors and vendors, the annual CAS Parade of Carts, an exhibit hall where manufacturers and organizations provided information and insight on their 2020 updates, and a networking chat room where attendees could ask questions, catch up, or expand their professional circle. Although networking opportunities were limited to text-based chat rooms and direct messages between attendees, the energy online was upbeat, enthusiastic, and full of a passion for sound for picture.
