38 The Costume Designer Fall 2020 Stephen M. Chudej December 4,1961–December 21, 2019 We are sad to announce the passing of Costume Designer and owner of San Marcos Costume Co., Stephen M. Chudej. Fighting pancreatic cancer since April 2018, Stephen passed peacefully at home Dec. 21, 2019. A three-time Emmy winner, Stephen was a successful Costume Designer, as well as owner of the Texas-based San Marcos Costume Co. He became a Local 892 Costume Designer in 1992 and had a lengthy career in both TV and film. The holidays found Stephen flying into LA from Texas to reconnect with his peers. We knew it was Christmas when he'd appear at the CDG doors, ready to help with party prep and join our festivities. He will also be sadly missed for his dry wit, lending hand, and giving spirit. Prior to his passing, he was honored with the Topaz Gratitude Award from the "Women in Film Dallas." The award is presented to distinguished Texas men and women who, through their own visions, have made outstanding contributions to film and television history. Stephen will be remembered for his dedication and passion for the collection he assembled for his rental com- pany, San Marcos Costume Co. Established in his retirement from film, Stephen began building his stock in the early 90s, acquiring choice garments from retiring costume houses, private collections, and estate sales nationwide. Stephen is survived by his wife Delia, daughter Haley, and son Travis. The San Marcos Costume Co. stock contains 50s, 60s, & 70s civilian clothing, as well as a large collection of uniforms and is currently in the process of liquidation. For more information concerning the collection and possible purchases, please visit the San Marcos website at sanmarcoscostume.com. SCRAPBOOK by Terry Gordon
