LONGBEACHMAGAZINE.COM 23 LONGBEACHMAGAZINE.COM 13 Karen Quimby-Lobo has done it all. She started out making pizzas, and went on to driving forklifts to owning a boutique in San Francisco to working 13 years in the beauty industry — and now owning the beautiful boutique Twig & Willow on Fourth Street. She does this all while still running her marketing, product development, and branding company Product 360 that she started three years ago. Her drive and passion come from the love of creating things that make women happy. Karen and her business partner, Billie Gentry, opened up Twig & Willow in December 2009. They have a great understanding of the "comfy-chic" lifestyle of the fashionable women of our city. Karen said she is a tomboy at heart and is more comfortable in casual clothes, but always likes to give it a fashionable edge. Her style is that of a modern-day hippie that is chic, casual, and a little bohemian. WHO ARE YOUR STYLE ICONS? My grandmother, who always looked put-together no matter where we went. As for modern-day icons, I'm into women who have a more casual, simple and bohemian approach to fashion — Kate Moss, Nicole Richie, Angelina Jolie and Kate Hudson. WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO SHOP — LOCALLY AND ELSEWHERE? I love finding little boutiques in small communities like Abbot Kinney in Venice, or wherever I happen to be roaming. What woman doesn't love Anthropologie! My favorite local boutiques are La Bella, Blue Windows and the new shoe store Sway. FAVORITE LONG BEACH HOTSPOTS: It's fun to sit at Number 9 and dine with all the local hipsters. Retro Row has a great energy, and I really like patronizing my Fourth Street neighbors. For coffee with friends or a little live local music, there is nowhere better than Viento y Agua — and I love the community camaraderie at the Coffee Cup Café for breakfast. MOST CHERISHED ITEM: My cashmere sweater collection and my Emma Rose earrings. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT LONG BEACH: The people! It's such an unexpected little pocket between L.A. and Orange County, and there is such an unpretentious, artistic and entrepreneurial spirit about the residents here. Owning such a community-based business here has made me appreciate the people even more. FAVORITE BLOG: Rachel Zoe and Who What Wear. WHAT IS ON YOUR WISH LIST FOR THIS SUMMER? I want everything bohemian, oversized and slouchy — but sexy at the same time. I'm loving white, nude, and colorful ethnic prints. I'm obsessed with layered jewelry on my neck and wrists.
