6 I M PS E . O R G LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome to the first-ever MPSE Wavelength quarterly magazine. We are very excited to put together this sound- and industry-related publication for the Motion Picture Sound Editor members, sound community, and our movie industry friends. First of all, I need to thank the entire Board of Directors for undertaking this new challenge. We are all volunteers, and we really want to make the first edition something special. I think we have pulled it o quite well. The biggest thanks must go to our magazine editor, Christina Horgan, for cracking the whip and wrangling all the content, and also to Steve Urban for helping to design the artwork. They had to put up with our magazine committee as well. They deserve a medal. We have contributors from many disciplines of sound, from music, e ects, dialogue, games, and even a student winner at our awards who has built upon his talents since then and gone on to win a Golden Reel in our Feature Film category. There are a lot of fun changes coming to the MPSE this year, please check your MPSE emails, follow us on our social media, and at MPSE .org for the latest information on events. Due to our current situation with COVID-19, we have moved all of our "Sound Advice" events to an online forum only. In the past, we would stream from a room with a live audience. This new method opens up interaction with our members from around the globe. It also allows us to easily bring content to you from any country. This opens up new possibilities for shows that we hadn't considered before. I think some events will continue to be brought to you in this manner even when the crisis is over to broaden our global footprint. We know a lot of you are going through tough times with post production sound work being hard to come by currently. Now is a great time to learn some new plug-ins, record some new sound e ects, and see what tools are available in our new environment. We hope you will turn to the MPSE for normalcy, as well as a place to still "see" your peers. The MPSE is here to help with our structured "Sound Advice" events, as well as our "Sound Advice Happy Hour" where it is a free-form discussion with our members interacting.
