J U L Y / A U G U S T 2 0 2 0 | P E R S P E C T I V E 1 0 7 James Zark Growing up in the 20th century and loving comic books, it's impossible to downplay the role that William Gaines' EC Comics has nailed into my brain. The fantastic and terrifying styles of Wally Wood and Jack Davis have forever infl uenced so many comic artists thereafter. And the morbid humor and painful puns of the beloved Crypt Keeper have scarred my personality forever. So this is my humble tribute to Tales From the Crypt and one of my favorite subgenres of horror: the cannibal diner. Combining humor and horror has always been a favorite style of mine since so perfectly balanced by Sam Raimi and John Landis. I'll always be in debt to fi lmmakers like them and comic book visionaries like Gaines, Wally and Jack. Hailing from Chicago and operating out of Los Angeles, James Zark keeps busy as a storyboard artist, comic book artist and illustrator. Having worked on numerous commercials with directors like Janusz KamiĆski and Doug Liman, as well as fi lm and television projects such as Grey's Anatomy, Bosch, Titans and the upcoming Homecoming season two, James' love of collaborating and working on various kinds of projects continues to grow. Having self-published two of his own comics over the years, it's always a joy to have an opportunity to work in that medium as well.
