Once I asked for and got a clear, single voice of guidance, the design and planning became achievable, yet still diffi cult due to the limited prep time…four weeks and counting! My design goal was to bring a more robust visual language to the train which was a redirect from the existing science fi ction concept. We ended up with an almost entirely female support team. It turned out to be one of the most fun Art Departments I have worked in, but it was rough for the fi rst month. You did a great job managing a challenging situation right through the six months we were on Snowpiercer. Boy, there were some rough days! Tom: I think we also both felt the pressure to meet the high mark set by the feature fi lm version, directed by Boon June Ho (Parasite), as well as the graphic novels which provide the original story with a strong established visual language. Barry: Exactly…but TNT didn't want a carbon copy of the fi lm and wanted the series to have its own identity. A tall order with tight budgets. A. & B. EXTERIOR TRAIN CONCEPT ART BY GERHARD MOZSI. C.
