REMOTE WORKFLOWS www.postmagazine.com 22 POST MAY/JUNE 2020 In mid-March, much of the world shut down, going into quarantine with the hope of slowing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Production came to a halt, and studios providing post services found themselves scrambling to complete jobs already in the queue. Terms such as social distancing, WFH (work from home), and coronavirus are now a part of today's lexicon, and the concept of employing a remote workflow has never been greater. Technology is allowing artists to work from their home-studio setups while sharing media with fellow collaborators in the content creation pipeline. Here, Post looks at a number of solutions that are enabling remote workflows, as well as some of the creatives professionals who are taking advantage of these advancements to deliver finished content to their clients. Remote Workflows Post industry solutions for finishing content amidst a quarantine BY MARC LOFTUS Frame.io's new release increases security NEW YORK CITY — Frame.io (http://frame.io), the maker of the video review and collaboration platform of the same name, has announced the launch of Frame. io V.3.6, along with a brand new application — Frame.io Transfer — which is in beta. Frame.io V.3.6 offers new features designed to meet the fast evolving needs of today's remote workforce, with a particular focus on speed and security. The expanded toolset addresses demands for fast project downloads with the Frame.io Transfer app; adds enhanced and powerful security features, like watermark ID for enterprise accounts; and continues to improve the overall collaborative experience, with additional new features such as iOS offline mode and folder sharing. "Frame.io Transfer, combined with even stronger security, smarter notifications, iOS Offline Mode and more, equips users with a powerful toolset that we hope will make their lives easier," states Emery Wells, cofounder and CEO of Frame.io. Frame.io Transfer is a new file transfer app for both Mac and Windows that lets users download large files, sophisticated folder structures or entire projects. It supports EDL and XML formats, so users can identify specific files, accelerating the process of relinking to original camera files for final conforms, color grading or sharing assets for VFX. Transfer also makes it possible to monitor active downloads and to drag and drop to reprioritize their order. Finally, Transfer facilitates fast and secure downloads, regardless of unstable internet connections. If there's a disrup- tion mid-download, Transfer pauses and automatically resumes once reconnected. Remote work has brought many new challenges, including the ensuring that high-value content is shared securely. Enterprise customers can now secure pre- sentation and review links using login-only access, which means that only specified recipients can view share links. Recipients will see a list of everything that's been shared with them in Frame.io's new inbox. Also announced in Frame.io V.3.6 is watermark ID, which provides customers with a layer of visible security. When any viewer presses play, Frame.io completes a realtime, on-demand transcode of the video with their personal identifying informa- tion burned into every frame.
