16 • THEARTISAN SPRING 2020 Before the memories have faded and only the thoughts of hand sanitizers, masks and rubber gloves leave us wondering what our world will be like when we return from the pandemic, perhaps it is time to refl ect and celebrate those whose outstanding works of make-up and hair artistry brought out the fi nest in glitz and glamour and captured the world's attention. Six months of planning by Local 706, IngleDodd Media and Weissman/Markovitz Communications and two nights of pre-awards revelry to honor both the nominees and artists in general, Hask, Skindinavia and Makeup For Ever launched the weekend with some righteous parties. With the impending weather problems, both the Red Carpet and the Live Stream were moved indoors causing a bit of overcrowding and frustration. Thanks to our hosts, Frankie Grande and Cat Stone, the majority of honored guests from Distinguished Artisan Patrick Stewart to Lifetime Achievement recipients Thomas Burman (make-up) and Martin Samuel (hair stylist) were viewed live all over the world. Thanks to the staging of our director Erick Weiss, the 7th Annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards were a gorgeous spectacle of color, light, huge viewing screens and a whole lot of fun. Like many other award shows, this year we chose not to have an emcee as in years before. IATSE Local 706 President Julie Socash and Business Representative Randy Sayer led by saying thanks to all our sponsors and volunteers in appre- ciation of their tireless efforts. Make-up artist Lisa Deveaux and her band movingly memorialized the members who have passed in 2019 with the song "Missing You." Sue Cabral-Ebert took a moment to remember the contributions of Jeanne Van Phue, Clockwise from top left: Distinguished Artisan Patrick Stewart; the MUAHS Guild Award statue; President Julie Socash; Business Rep Randy Sayer; Frankie Grande and Marcia Gay Harden are among celebrities streaming live from the Red Carpet; Justice Singleton; The Novo; Martin Samuel, Lifetime Achievement Award winner for hair; and Thomas Burman, Lifetime Achievement Award winner for make-up.
