Growing up, I idolized him and tried to be like him. We both helped my father in his prop-making shop whenever he needed us. We made molds, cast, trimmed and painted the artifacts like tomahawks, war clubs, rifl es, pistols, swords and all kinds of cool stuff. Sonny joined the Marine Corps and served in Korea and then later in Viet Nam. During that time, I was an apprentice at Fox working under John Chambers on Planet of the Apes. Sonny had just gotten out of the hospital on convalescent leave and I invited him to come and visit me at Fox. He still had a couple of weeks left, so I asked John if we could give him a few days In Memoriam Journeyman make-up artist Adam Brandy has a second grandchild. John hired him and he did body make-up on the humans in the cornfi eld. During the two weeks, he worked, he made more money than he would in six months in the Marines. He didn't reenlist again. He worked on Beneath the Planet of the Apes and later was able to land a staff job at CBS on All in the Family, The Carol Burnett Show, The Smothers Brothers Show and The Bill Cosby Show. Eventually, John Chambers and I formed a partnership with him and opened the fi rst independent make-up studio to serve not only our fi lm and television industry with prosthetics, but also undercover work helping the CIA perfecting their dis- guises. Sonny and I ended up buying John's interest out and a couple of years later, I bought out Sonny's interest. He would in turn, start his own company called Cosmekinetics. Sonny never thought of himself to be a good artist, but he was. He considered himself to be more of a lab technician, but I think his mechanical abilities were unprecedented for that time. Being brothers, we had so much fun together and we had our squab- bles, but I always loved him. It is hard to realize that he is gone.
