A fter receiving the honor of Best Vodka of Show and a Double Gold from our 2009 San Francisco World Spirits competition, Kent Fleischmann, owner of Spokane- based craft-distilled Dry Fly vodka, sent THE TASTING PANEL a thank you card, announcing that they were "fl oored" when they heard the news. Here's the photo from the front of the postcard: DeKuyper Extends Burst Bar Shots Line C onnecticut's award-winning Thomas Hooker Brew- ing Company released the 2009 edition of its Watermelon Ale last month. The crisp ale shows an intense ripe-watermelon nose that summons memo- ries of Fourth of July picnics. On the palate, this all-American brew is surprisingly non-cloying, with only a hint of sweetness—it's ale, after all—and deliv- ers a fi nish as leisurely as an afternoon at the beach. All that's missing are the seeds. Production contin- ues throughout the summer in bottles and on tap. —David Gadd Thomas Hooker Releases '09 Watermelon Ale
