Designer Stefano Ortolani during the preparation of the Sistine Chapel for the TV series I Grandi Papi, they visited the department, talked to the designers and met the Set Decorator Livia Del Priore. Likewise the visits to the studios of wizards such as Dante Ferretti, Giantito Burchiellaro and Luciano Ricceri have been very interesting. In the digital age, a great focus is placed on hand drawing: «First you have to be able to draw well in pencil and then move on to the computer», it is the teachers' diktat. To draw a sketch, colour it, create a lay out and then implement the working drawings at the drafting table is not an obsolete exercise, but an essential step. At the end of the course, in the Fellini hall in Cinecittà, the students presented a report on the work done and then received an attendance certificate. As is customary, at the end of the training course, the ASC has tried to promote the internships of the students, flanking them to the production designers of the Association and providing them with the necessary insurance coverage, which otherwise the productions would have hardly paid. The successful experience of the ASC advanced training continues in 2019 as well: for information on the course of study, dates and costs just contact the Association (tel. +39.06.72293457) or keep an eye on the official website www.aesseci.org. ◆◆◆ The ASC, the Italian acrynym for the Association of Production, Costume and Interior Designers, also holds advanced training classes for aspiring Production Designers, and the magazine showcases the work done in these 200 hour classes held once a year. The work done by these artists and their teachers is truly impressive, and readers of EETIE have seen the work of members of this association in recent articles featuring shows shot in Italy, The Two Popes and Catch-22. Their artistry and craft are impressive to even the most experienced designers. Along with material that mirrors topics that would typically be covered by PERSPECTIVE, there are also numerous articles that fall outside this magazine's focus but are still of related interest. The designs of Italian theater and operas are inspiring to anyone interested in visual storytelling, and stories like the one on an exposition of the many creations by special eff ects master arlo ambaldi make the eff ort of reaching out and exploring this periodical well worth the cost and eff ort.
