LMGI COMPASS | Spring 2020 • 59 drinking enough water and making healthier food choices, you will find yourself crossing the finish line at a distance race. But I will say that even a marathon starts with one step. In this case, the one step could be as easy as the things I just listed and your marathon could be just dropping a few nagging pounds and feeling better! I know many of you are wondering how I manage to fit it all in with our schedules. Well, here is where our skill set comes in. Much of what we do involves a lot of linear thinking and ad- vanced planning. Adding working out to your life is the same thing. Of course, you can do a 10-minute walk at lunch and you can do a couple minutes of stretching here and there throughout the day, but what if you wanted to do more? How do you fit it in? For me, it comes down to simple math. Keeping in mind that 14- hour on-set days make things a bit challenging but for the most part, we tend to work 10 to 12 hours a day. So, for example, let's say 12-hour days. If you are like me and need seven hours of sleep, that is 19 hours out of your day. So the question is, what do you do with the other five? Can you give up 30 minutes of TV time or brainless social media swiping to get in a quick workout/ walk, run or bike ride? I guarantee that 30 minutes of exercise will make you feel better than either of the above mentioned pastimes. And when that 30 minutes are over, Netflix and Insta- gram will still be there! I know you may think you can't make a lifestyle change while working our kinds of hours and surrounded by the types of food we are around all day, but I stand in defiance of that idea and if I can do it, so can all of you.
