people RANDALL SMITH Santa Monica-based digital production/design studio Big Block has hired Randall Smith as CG supervisor. He brings more than a decade of experience in VFX and CG, working in spots, features, music videos and game cinematics. Smith is currently VFX super on the film Larry Gaye: Renegade Male Flight Attendant. Most recently Smith was CG director at Reel FX in Dallas. He began his career at May Advertising, and is a graduate from the Art Institute of Dallas with a degree in Computer Animation and Visual Effects. SMITH SCOTT MARY KNOX   VFX house Smoke & Mirrors has named Mary Knox managing director of its New York office. Her hire is part of a global strategy to strengthen the brand across its international studio locations. Most recently, Knox was managing director of editorial boutique Red Car New York. Before that she was managing director of commercials for Curious Pictures, where she executive produced all advertising assignments and expanded the company's directorial roster to include live action in addition to animation. KNOX FLOSDORF DAN FLOSDORF NYC audio post house Heard City has added mixer/sound designer Dan Flosdorf to its roster. A regular on the commercial and feature film scenes, Flosdorf brings experience on campaigns for Verizon Fios, Nike Livestrong, Grey Goose, Honda, IBM and Amex. Flosdorf's film work includes the upcoming The Place Beyond the Pines, and GUN, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. Prior to joining Heard City, Flosdorf spent time at @radical.media, Sound Lounge and Outpost Digital. JAY RUBIN Slate Media Group has hired Jay Rubin as director of sales for sound services. With over 30 years of experience in film and television sound, Rubin was hired to grow the sound editorial and mixing business for all Slate Media Group companies, including Technicolor-PostWorks, Hula Post Productions and PostWorks in New York. He will also be involved in recruiting new talent. For the past 11 years, Rubin served as manager of business development at Sound One, New York, where he began his career. While there, he serviced the sound needs of scores of studioproduced and independent films. He helped build Speade in London alongside editor Sam Sneade and won his first Clio for Editing in 2008 on Thorntons, one of many collaborations with Harmony Korine (MJZ). He is currently finishing the debut feature of Gia Coppola, based on James Franco's book of short stories, Palo Alto. In addition to a Val Kilmer doc about his one-man stage portrayal of Mark Twain, Scott is working on his own passion project: a doc about the peace symbol, which his grandfather designed in 1958 as a symbol for nuclear disarmament. KEITH KRISTINAT, DAVID ROSENBLATT Red Car Chicago has signed editors Keith Kristinat and David Rosenblatt. Most recently, Kristinat was an editor at Chicago's Utopic, working with such brands as Nintendo, Samsung, Coca-Cola, Kellogg's and Sears. Prior to Red Car, Rosenblatt was a freelance editor whose work focused on long-form projects. He cut the feature film Machete, directed by Robert Rodriguez, as well as Hustle and Flow and Me & Orson Welles. Rosenblatt is a Film & TV grad from the University of Texas. Kristinat and Rosenblatt, along with all Red Car Chicago editors, are available nationally through the Red Car offices in Dallas, New York and Los Angeles. JAMES ROSE Final Cut (LA, NYC, London) has added editor James Rose to its roster. Rose, who will be based out of Final Cut's London office, joins the company with over a decade of experience in commercial, music video and documentary editing. Rose started as a runner, and that led an apprenticeship with editor Nicholas-Wayman Harris at NWH. Rose then joined Cut + Run in '07, where he worked until his recent move to Final Cut. ROSE JOSH LIBITSKY   Mixed-media production studio Roger in LA has added Josh Libitsky as executive producer. The production industry veteran helped grow the company's live-action projects and ad work. Most recently, Libitsky was executive producer at production company Stardust, where he worked on projects for T-Mobile, Coke Zero and Mercedes, among others, following three years as head of production.
