honor for us," says Cooley. "The people in the
other categories were on shows that filmed
all over the world … Australia, South Africa,
Canada, New York … but we were the only one
from California (and Mexico) that was recog-
nized, so that was great," says Cooley.
In the end, for Cooley, it's all about the team.
The family … people like Rick Surad/LMGI and
Leslie Glennon/LMGI, his "rock" in the office, and "super scout"
Ben McCrea/LMGI, who he's known and worked with for 17 years
going all the way back to New York.
"We really appreciate that the LMGI focuses a spotlight on the
Location Department's contribution—not just to the look of a
show, but to the storytelling overall."

For now, Cooley and his team have moved over to the new FX se-
ries The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges, but they all seem excited
to return for season three of Mayans and, after a whopper of an
ending for season two, they're curious to see where it will lead
them. "One of the things that is simultaneously fun and terrifying
about writing Mayans is that we gloriously get to smash things
apart, but then have to figure out how to put it all back together,"
says James. Luckily for him, he'll have Dan Cooley and the team
to help accomplish that.
