Summer 2019 The Costume Designer 9 BON N I E N I PAR (Where the Rubber Meets the Road, Boldface Names) Bonnie Nipar joined the Guild in 1997 and works as a Costume Designer for television. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, she was an art student at Carnegie Mellon before moving to Los Angeles and enter- ing the industry. A huge fan of The Costume Designer, Associate Editor Nipar loves being involved in all aspects of the magazine. She says, "It's a treat to honor the latest accomplishments of our peers." CONTRIBUTORS MARCY FROEH LIC H (The Costume Society of America) Marcy Froehlich joined the Guild in 1992 fresh from New York and Broadway. Her designs have run the gamut from the- ater and opera to film and TV, from Waiting for Godot to the Miss America Pageant. She also co-authored (with Barbara Inglehart and Pamela Shaw) Shopping LA. Froehlich has long had an interest in histori- cal costume and research, so she is delighted to contribute to the magazine in this way. GARY V. FOSS (Swarovski Presents) NANC EA C EO (A Meditation on Mindfulness) JACQUELI N E SAI NT AN N E (Randall Christensen) Born in Panama and educated in Europe and the United States, Emmy Award-winning Costume Designer and President Emeritus of the Costume Designers Guild, Jacqueline Saint Anne earned her master's degree from The Ring Theatre at the University of Miami. Currently, she is the Creative Director of Film and Television Costume Design at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. After spending years teaching English and history, Gary Foss has turned his hand to his life- long passion for writing. When not composing poetry, working on his own projects, or engaging in his passion for drawing, he can be found reviewing books, art, and contemporary culture on his blog at rootwordssite .wordpress.com/author/gar yv foss and on Twitter @garyvfoss STACY ELLEN RIC H (Boldface Names) Stacy Ellen Rich joined the CDG in 2005 and she is thrilled to be involved with the magazine. Her design career began with study in Florence, Italy, and flourished within the sphere of Chicago Theater, which catapulted her into the world of film. The journey has seen her through many amaz- ing experiences in media as var- ied as film, performance art, and music video. Additionally, Rich's designs have been on view in the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and the Tate Modern in London. It is her plea- sure to assist in compiling the fan- tastic array of accolades earned by our Guild members. Nancea Ceo, Costume Designer, has a painterly approach to cos- tumes, visualizing the writer's words, the production designer's sets, and the director's vision as a work of art, moving and multi- layered. and from this she draws a fabric skin for each character. In fittings the character is revealed fully. She always works to better tell a visual story through char- acter. Ceo created costumes for The CHI, On My Block, and The Originals. She is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, RISD, with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art. In between TV and film projects, Nancea cultivates her interests in art, architecture, fash- ion, meditation, yoga, surfing and in international world cultures through travel, which all influ- ence her creative work. CATH ERI N E ADAI R (Nice is Not a Four-Letter Word) Catherine Adair is honored to be serving as Vice President of the CDG. She completed formal training in fashion and Costume Design in her native Britain and has gone on to design fea- ture films, television, ballet, and theatre. Her television credits include The Man in the High Castle (Seasons 3 & 4), The Son (Season 1), Bosch (Seasons 1 & 2), Desperate Housewives, and Oprah Winfrey's Before Women Had Wings. Film cred- its include Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and the cult classic, BASEketball. She has received four Emmy Award nomi- nations and four CDG nomina- tions. Cate's proud to now call California her home.
