52 The Costume Designer Summer 2019 Filming in Los Angeles, CD Nancy Steiner is designing feature film Promising Young Woman with CD Claudia Sarbu on board as supervisor. Produced by FilmNation Entertainment and Focus Fea- tures, the ensemble cast includes Carey Mulligan, Bo Burnham, Adam Brody, and Connie Britton in a story of a traumatized young woman who seeks out vengeance against men who cross her path. It is British actress Emerald Fennell's first feature film as a writer/ director. "Working with Emerald is amazing," confides Steiner. "She is also the writer and showrunner for Season 2 of Killing Eve, and will soon star in the next season of The Crown, playing Camilla Parker Bowles. And she was six months pregnant during our shoot!" CD Nancy Steiner, Alyson Wegner, Matt Carey, Claudia Sarbu (L-R) IN FOCUS BOLDFACE NAMES BFN - WORK Designing her second series in At- lanta, Georgia, this year, CD Jaclyn Akeju recently wrapped Comedy Central's new series Robbie, a story of a basketball coach who dreams of leading the local high school team to a championship, just like his father. The show is created by comedian and lead actor Rory Scovel, additional cast in- cludes Beau Bridges, Sasheer Zamata, and Mary Holland. Akeju says, "One of the most fun and funniest part of this job was designing a tuxedo for a chicken!" The eight-episode series will air in January 2020. CD Marie France has recently finished designing the sci-fi drama series Don't Look Deeper, starring Don Cheadle, Jan Luis Castella- nos, and Belissa Escobedo as a high school senior who suspects she might not be human. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke, the series is co-written by Charlie McDonnell and Lost co-creator Jeffrey Lieber for Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman's short-form video plat- form Quibi. "It's been very exciting to be a part of this new adven- ture in streaming," says France. "Episodes are 10- to 12-minute quick bytes of entertainment, created for mobile devices." The series will launch in April 2020.
