Summer 2019 The Costume Designer 13 Dear Members, We are at a time in history where everyone needs to take action to secure our future as a labor union. There are attacks from all sides to either reduce the power or completely erase the voice of labor. Nationwide, conservatives are trying to make states right-to-work states where the working man has no one to represent them against management. Now is the time to stand and make your voice heard. One way to do this is to contribute to the IATSE PAC. We urge you to become a monthly donor. You can donate as little as a few dollars per month or as much a you can handle but every little bit helps. President Loeb has stressed the need for our voice to be heard in Washington and the PAC allows us to do that. The IATSE PAC is nonpartisan and has supported Democrats, Republicans, and Independents who are committed to protecting the institution of collective bar- gaining, fight to protect the benefits we've earned at the bargaining table, and work to secure social safety nets such as Medicare and Social Security. Federal law prohibits unions from using dues to donate to federal election campaigns. The PAC acts as our voice in Washington to help elect or defeat candidates or oppose legislation seeking to undermine labor rights and interests. Any anti-union legislation or politician that aims to undermine the livelihood of members working under the IATSE jurisdiction becomes a driving interest and concern to the PAC. For the third year in a row, President Trump has zeroed out the budget for the NEA/National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities citing "no meaningful impact" as its reasoning. The PAC moved to take decisive counter action which resulted in full funding for the NEA, for now. That battle continues. You may pick up a donation form from the office or call us and we will send you one.
