Summer 2019 The Costume Designer 11 In this issue of the CDG magazine, we talk about wellness. The industry has changed so much. They expect more from us in less time and on smaller budgets, so we keep pushing ourselves to get it done. In all that madness, we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves. I'm guilty of this. I think, "Oh, I can make that doctor appointment next week," "I'll eat better next week," and so on, but we need to be on top of our game to be effective leaders. If we aren't in perfect health, how can we manage the hours and stress in our lives? More coffee is not the answer! And it's not just physical health, we need to have good mental health too. We need to make ourselves our number one priority s co we can take care of everything else in our lives, work, and at home. We also need to make sure our teams are healthy and happy. As department heads, we need to make sure our crews are well taken care of so we are a well-run team. I spent nine months in London. It was a very hard show, but what got me through it was eating better and taking time for myself. As those of you who have seen me since I got back know, I came back from London a few pounds lighter. I have continued to eat cleaner and maintain this new healthier lifestyle. These changes have made my life so much better. We are celebrating the career of Bob Mackie. I had the privilege of seeing a preview of The Cher Show in Chicago last summer. Bob's work on the show is remarkable. The Tony Award was richly deserved. Bob is still going strong at 80, and he is a testament to taking care of yourself so you can have a long career. This year's Emmy nominations show the diverse talent we have in the industry. There is so much incredible Costume Design work to celebrate! Television costume design rivals many feature films, and Costume Designers are getting many opportunities to show their talent. We are starting to prepare for the 2020 CDG Awards. The submission process will start in September. We have adjusted the rules for TV series submissions. Costume Designers will now enter one episode, as opposed to an entire season. This will make it easier to ensure the costumes are specific to the catego- ries and hopefully encourage even more members to participate. The complete rules will be on our web- site soon.
