Summer 2019 The Costume Designer 57 On July 23, CDG mem- bers were invited to join CD and President Salvador Perez to ex- perience and explore t h e m e m b e r s - o n ly Room Service at the Beverly Center. Hosted by Room Service man- ager Camille Joseph and member service managers David Miller- Robinson and Mandy Salvaryn, attending Costume Designers were treated to cocktails and gourmet tacos/lettuce wraps from Tocaya Organtica while touring the luscious space that offers a well- appointed lounge room, high-speed Wi-Fi, phone chargers, keyed storage lockers, and a large fitting room/conference room with three-way mirror, steamer, rolling racks, and big-screen monitor. The VIP entrance is directly adjacent to the La Cienega Valet which offers complimentary valet parking to all CDG members with their free Room Service membership. Opening at 9:30 am, a half-hour before the mall opens, come join them at the coffee bar while you organize your day shopping at the Beverly Center. On August 3, Swarovski hosted an intimate workshop for CDG members at Western Costume sharing new techniques and prod- ucts. Crystals and cham- pagne were served alongside a delicious lunch. BFN - EDUCATION The Education Committee, headed by CD Ivy Thaide, invited guest speaker Kimberly Seltzer to talk to CDG members about the confi- dence of being your own brand. Members wrote their first impres- sions of fellow members in a group exercise. The Hollywood Reporter featured a fascinating article titled "How a Show's Location Sets the Fashion Tone." Interviews with an array of Guild designers are featured. Exclusive to The Paley Center, the new interactive exhibit, Star Trek: Discovery—Fight for the Future, ran from May 8 to July 7, 2019. Fans were delighted to listen to a lively discussion between CD Gersha Phillips and prosthetic makeup department co-heads Glenn Hetrick and James MacKinnon that was aptly moderated by L'Rell herself, Mary Chieffo.
