As a result of the UK being so busy,
we now have more grades within
our department, taking us full circle
back to those ladder rungs. Perched
at the top, we have the supervising
location manager. They will do the
initial scouting on a movie, along with
a location scout, deal with the budget,
all HODs and location scheduling. They
oversee all locations, including the
running of the set, logistics, facilities
and parking in all countries. Their
right hands are the location managers
working directly under their guidance.
They scout and run the locations from
prep through to shoot and strike,
dealing with authorities, residents and
permits, organizing road closures and
licenses.
With any luck, they are supported by
a crackerjack support team that helps
with the heavy lifting. Assistant location
managers help with scouting, filming
applications, site meetings, movement
orders, parking applications, security
breakdowns and kit ordering. The
location coordinator works in the office,
writing all the Location Department
purchase orders, issuing all scouting
itinerates, movement orders and
location memos. They arrange travel
itineraries and the daily calendar and
help track the budget by importing the
costs generated from the POs.
A unit manager is responsible for
each filming day, making sure the
