HEALTHY
ATHLETES
The Healthy Athletes program is dedicated
to providing health services and education
to Special Olympics athletes, and
changing the way health systems interact
with people with intellectual disabilities.
The vision is to create a future world
where people with intellectual disabilities
have the same opportunities to be as
healthy as people without intellectual
disabilities and, in doing so, Special
Olympics athletes can perform to their
best on and off the playing field.
Special Olympics Delaware offered
Healthy Athletes at our 2018 Summer
Games event with more than 350 athletes
visiting. The program included Opening
Eyes (Vision), Special Smiles (Dental),
Healthy Hearing (Audiology) and Fit Feet
(Podiatry). Each component of Healthy
Athletes was administered with the help
of local volunteers with professional
expertise in that discipline.
