www.postmagazine.com 45 POST JAN/FEB 2019 STORAGE NEWS BURLINGTON, MA — Avid (www.avid.com) has released Avid NEXIS | E5 NL, a high-density on-premises nearline storage solution, to its NEXIS family — its software-defined storage platform for media. Avid NEXIS | E5 NL is tightly integrated into Avid media applications, services and work- flows, and includes a Web-based Avid NEXIS management console for managing, controlling and monitoring Avid NEXIS installations. Avid NEXIS | E5 NL can be easily accessed through MediaCentral | Cloud UX or Media Composer and also integrates with MediaCentral | Production Management, MediaCentral | Asset Management and MediaCentral | Editorial Management to drive collaboration, including project and bin sharing. Extending the Avid NEXIS | FS (file system) to a secondary storage tier eliminates the need for third-party tools to search for, find and import media from multi- ple pools of third-party storage, enabling users to locate content distributed throughout their operations more quickly and efficiently. Intended for project parking, staging work- flows and proxy archive, Avid NEXIS | E5 NL streamlines the workflow between active and non-active assets, allowing media organiza- tions to park assets and completed projects on high-density nearline storage, and keep them within easy reach for rediscovery and reuse. Up to eight Avid NEXIS | E5 NL engines can be integrated as one virtualizable pool of storage, making it easy for teams to find and access parked assets and projects. In addition, other Avid NEXIS Enterprise engines can be integrated into a single storage system that is partitioned for better archival organization. SAN JOSE, CA — As it begins 2019, iXsystems (www.iXsystems.com) reports three consecutive years with over 50 percent year-over-year revenue growth in its TrueNAS product line. The company attributes the results to the rapid adop- tion of the TrueNAS M-Series storage appliance. The TrueNAS M-Series unified file, block and object storage appliances de- liver "advanced technologies in perfect harmony" according to DCIG (an anal- ysis company) and are proving to be the go-to storage solution for businesses, schools and government agencies that need a storage solution scalable to over 10 petabytes. Released in May 2018, the M-Series provides high availability and 100Gb/s performance using best-of-breed technologies including NVDIMMs, NVMe and the ZFS file system. They can be configured in hybrid or all-flash modes. According to iXsystems, the media and entertainment (M&E) industry was among the earliest adopters of the TrueNAS M-Series. Production houses, including three major Hollywood studios, have implemented the TrueNAS M50 for both archive and editing workflows. The high capacity and high bandwidth of the M-Series, along with all the data protection and replication tools, make it well suited to the production and storage of valuable multimedia assets. iXsystems reports that both the TrueNAS X-Series and M-Series are also be- ing used in more turnkey solutions. The Asigra TrueNAS backup appliance was identified by SearchDataBackup, a newsletter for the IT industry, as one of the converged secondary storage solutions changing "buying patterns for organi- zations," and is a finalist in its 2018 SearchStorage Backup Products of the Year. FreeNAS, the open source storage operating system, is integral to the suc- cess of the TrueNAS platforms. Version 11.2 of FreeNAS launched in December and features an all-new angular-based Web interface that will be extended to TrueNAS in 2019. With over 10 million downloads and a rapidly-growing com- munity, FreeNAS can be found in many organizations around the world. "There are an estimated $1 million deployed TrueNAS and FreeNAS systems with many exabytes under management," says Morgan Littlewood, senior VP, product management, iXSystems. "To support this vast user base, we will be releasing a single pane of glass management system for the combined FreeNAS and TrueNAS community." The TrueNAS family, including FreeNAS, had another high growth year in 2018. The significant product enhancements and the high quality of the TrueNAS software and support stimulated the highest ever annual growth in revenue and units shipped.
