Winter 2019 The Costume Designer 11 Dear Members, 2019! It hardly seems possible. This begins year 15 for me in a CDG leadership position. I am thrilled to have been able to serve the membership as your Executive Director, and I have recently been named a Director on the MPIPHP Plans. I look forward to being able to represent the membership in this capacity. We begin the year with our acclaimed awards event on February 19. I hope you will be able to join us that night and celebrate the outstanding work and achievements in Costume Design. This year, we hope to make new strides here at the Guild. I am pleased to say that Ivy Thaide, our education chairperson, has been busy planning a full calendar of events for mem- bers to participate in during the upcoming year. Almost every weekend offers some type of training or improvement classes not only in the area of our craft but fiscal responsibilities, health issues, and emergency preparedness. Our Local is also very involved in promoting gender equality and equal pay for all. We have formed a committee to explore all avenues to pursue this. Kristin Burke is our point person and I am sure would love membership input on this issue. We invite you to open the GEMS each week to stay up to date on issues that affect our members. The information provided weekly comes from a broad range of sources and I know you will find it very informative. Watch for dates for our movie nights chaired by Mikael Sharafyan and Jennifer Soulages. They have a great lineup of films with guest speakers planned throughout the year. I hope all of you follow us on social media and participate in honoring our craft. At this time of resolutions and new beginnings, I urge you to be kind to one another, to offer a helping hand to those who need it, and to bring joy to a world so sorely in need of it. Happy New Year! In solidarity, Rachael Stanley rstanley@cdgia.com EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR UNION LABEL CALENDAR January 21 CDG Office is closed for MLK Day February 2 Executive Board Meeting, 10:30 a.m. February 18 CDG Office is closed for Presidents Day February 19 21st CDG Awards, Beverly Hilton March 2 Executive Board Meeting, 10:30 a.m. March 16 General Membership Meeting, CDG Office, 10:30 a.m.
