Right, Member John Goodman lent his voice to a SAG-AFTRA-produced radio spot asking voters to defeat "right-to-work" in his home state of Missouri. R O B E R T T R A C HT E N B E R G / A B C decision, as so many important Supreme Court decisions often are. In her dissent, Justice Elena Kagan, lamented the upending of four decades of precedent, and laid bare the damaging nature of the ruling. "There is no sugarcoating today's opinion. The majority overthrows a decision entrenched in this nation's law — and in its economic life — for over 40 years. As a result, it prevents the American people, acting through their state and local officials, from making important choices about workplace governance." It's a stark reminder of the consequences of voting — or not voting. To underscore the point, in September, the union's top leadership, including Carteris, Executive Vice President Rebecca Damon and Secretary-Treasurer Jane Austin sent a letter to members emphasizing the importance of voting and providing a link to information to help members register. "Whatever your party affiliation, get out and vote because it's a right that our democracy depends on," they wrote. In October, SAG-AFTRA followed up with information on how to vote absentee, useful for members who may be traveling or shooting on location and away from their local polling station on election day. It s being sold as a way to help Missouri workers. But look a little deeper and you ll see It s all about corporate greed. " SAG-AFTRA is a non-partisan organization, representing people from different walks of life across the political spectrum. But the union believes in the principle of fairness and that its members deserve to be properly compensated for the work they do. Get informed on the issues and vote. With unions and workers increasingly coming under attack, SAG-AFTRA won't stop fighting, and the union — your union — can't do it without you.
